Pros and cons of OpenRice app for iPhone and iPad
OpenRice app good for
Easy to use and well integrated with map. It would be great to have English translation so I can recommend it to all my friends who are visiting HK as they all love to have eat.
Good service and nice food. Parents and I got a great lunch for Yumcha
One of my favorite restaurant review sites is finally available in English. 5 stars!
我試過掃描器功能不能行IOS 5.0 其他功能都無問題
I have been using the website for a long time and the app has been ok. It would make more sense of the listing could be arranged in alphabetical order. I really dont understand that random and arbitrary order that you have right now.
Long-awaited version, finally supports higher resolution on iPhone, so as the ads... Way to go man!
Some bad moments
I downloaded open rice for the sake of finding restaurants in Hong Kong and after I have came to the point that I started to write an review for a certain restaurant and they did not allow me to post it because they said I am contradicted with the comment from the local newspaper, this is so unprofessional act....
Plagued with advertisement, difficult to navigate, and some reviews are removed if they are negative. Very biased app. I sense corruption.
The overall look and functionality is good and easy to use. My main problem is the criteria for writing a review! I am not a food critic or a professional writer, but this hasnt ever been a barrier to contributing to other apps (ie. Yelp, Urban Spoon). I wrote a short review of a restaurant that stood out as a 5 out of 5 for me and my husband and wrote a super positive review and 5 out of 5 stars in all the categories. A few days later, I got an email stating, "Please avoid submitting a review that feels blank, with no solid description of the food and the overall dining experience. A review is the most useful when its descriptive and experiential, and offers helpful suggestions". I found it interesting that the criticism I received for being too vague, was also super vague. Like I said, I am not a professional writer and I am sure the majority of the users are not either and I am not going to spend more than 2 minutes on a review so the review criteria should accommodate short, brief, in the moment reviews. As long as the review doesnt give out names of servers or use swears (ie. similar to TripAdvisor) then any review should be posted. Especially if it is a 5 out of 5!! So despite the functionality of the app, the philosophy behind is restricting to use on the fly.
Instead I am just going to drop a note off at the restaurant to credit the staff for their work, but that doesnt help spread the word to the broader community.
Even though I sort by building, this application shows restaurant located outside of chosen building.
Once I turn off, should start from top page... So, messy.
Must slower than search from their website. (on iPhone)
Each time only show one preview.
Without bookmark funtion.
Now I use safari to search restaurants.
though the info bar on the left says "Language: English" this app is chinese only.
